Rip Offs Alert: Internet Service Provider Scam
By Shelley Lockwood
Here's an unbelievable ISP scam.
Consumers were mailed so called rebate checks.
Who wouldn't cash a check they received?
Recipients went to the bank and cashed the checks. The checks were good. They received the money, a whole US$3.50.
What's the scam? People who cashed the checks, though unaware were actually agreeing to have the issuer become their Internet service provider.
Before they knew it they were being billed monthly on their telephone bills by an Internet service provider that they didn't even know they had.
Beware of any checks you receive. If you don't know what they're for or who they're from, make sure you get all the details before you cash them.
