email Scam Alert: Beware ebay Second Chancers
By Shelley Lockwood
When a winning bidder doesn't complete an auction purchase on ebay, the next highest bidder may be given the chance to complete the purchase at their last highest bid.
Well scammers are at it again. In some instances the second chance offer to buy is not being sent by the ebay seller, but in fact by a scammer.
So from now on if you receive a second chance offer, you'll need to do your homework before responding or you just may find yourself paying for something you'll never receive.
Because your ebay bidding history can be viewed, the scammer will be pretty convincing. The scammers e-mail the bidder directly using a contact facility on ebay. Though they can't see the actual e-mail address when they send out the second chance, they will have it soon enough if they receive a response.
Between having ebay access to e-mail bidders, and knowledge of their bidding history, the second chance offer comes across as being legitimate.
Proceed with caution if you receive a second chance offer. Check it out. Is the ebay user name the same as the original sellers? Is their e-mail address the same?
Either way to be on the safe side, contact the original ebay seller yourself, and not in reply to the e-mail. Make sure that the offer is in fact coming from the original seller via your own correspondence rather than in reply to the e-mail.
Take care,
Shelley
